Strange Alarm Behaviour

Hi All,
I've had a couple of occasions recently where the alarm has behaved strangely.
Just over a week ago the alarm started going off randomly and at one point I couldn't even get it to silence.
I immediately suspected the bonnet switch so disconnected it but the alarm still continued to go off randomly.
I eventually left the car unlocked (it was in a secure place!!) to avoid annoying the neighbours.
I reconnected the bonnet switch the next day and have had no further problems until yesterday when I unlocked the car after work and noticed no bleeps. I didn't think too much of it so got in and set off. The alarm started going off as I'm driving out of the carpark and again, I couldn't stop it! I managed eventually and it hasn't gone off again since. Bleeps on lock and unlock have returned.
Although I've had no other issues and the car always starts first time, a quick search on here would suggest the battery could be the culprit. I'm not sure how old it is but I've never changed it in the 6 years I've owned the car.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for things to try or check before I swap the battery?
Thanks for your help.
Andy

Sounds like a battery change. Problem you have is that its 'intermittent' so not easy to get to the bottom of. I've heard battery changes sorting out all kinds of electrical gremlins - hope it works for you.

Well, tonight I've fitted a new battery and the alarm problems continue.
It's possible the new battery isn't fully charged I guess but would that still cause the issues I'm having?
I've currently disconnected the bonnet switch and disabled the internal sensors when I locked the car to see if that helps but is there a way to lock it without arming the alarm should I need to?
Does anyone else have any ideas for what I could try?
I, and the neighbours, would be extremely grateful for your suggestions!

Sorry the battery change hasn't fixed it :(
It's looking like you may need an auto electrician to get to the bottom of this one :scratchhead:
