Storm Motorwerks Gear Shift Knob Loosening

I know it sure ain't rocket science but for anyone experiencing it.

I have had mine for several weeks now and once installed I kept the supplied Allen wrench in the glove compartment...good move.

It loosened up on me rather quickly. I'm sure I tightened it conservatively the first time so...understood.

The second time one of the set screws had backed out about half way (and I had tightened the screws pretty securely this time, or so I thought). When I got home I broke out the thread sealer (Blue LocTite in my case) and juiced up the screws. I found that tightening them alternately, back and forth several times, that they turned in quite a bit more than when I only tightened each one a time or two. I feared stripping the threads in the gear knob on the first two occasions, this time I wasn't too concerned but still practiced some caution.

So far no more loosening....but I'm keeping the wrench in the car.

FWIW

That sounds like a bit of a faff.

Makes me glad I bought a ZHP - just whack it on!

I also keep allen key in the car for my storm,it does loosen slightly over time, tightened a couple times over a year
This i can live with, and its only very slight and doesnt suddenly come loose so there is no worry about it being a hazard.

Imagine shooting over an unseen speed ramp and the storm flying up in the air and landing amongst the spuds :o

They are of a considerable weight (the storm knob, not the spuds)

Mine used to do that. I discovered I hadn’t actually pushed the knob on far enough for the screw to get in the groove on the shaft of the gear lever. I keep the Allen key in the car too but it’s been fine for about 55k Miles now...
