Storm damage

My Discovery was parked outside last night (July 1st ) and we had an ice storm with thunder etc - ice balls from golf ball size to small potato size came down - the car is dented, roof and bonnet. :(
All the other cars in the estate are based in.

The disco is 2006 but very low miles and I fear that it will be a write off.
Z4 was in the garage fortunately but I've just collected my wife's new 335xd and can't help lookin at the clouds !
 
oh heck- when i lived in South West France this used to happen - serious pain ..... if i remember right not a HSE otherwise an even bigger mess :thumbsdown:
 
One guy had a new car delivered at 1600 the ice came at 2100 :(
Windscreens out in some cars - the excitement of collecting our new car was somewhat tempered I can tell yo!
 
Yikes, thats shocking. I have never seen ice damage and never want to. How quickly can you erect a car port?!

It might have been but these ice balls came down with enough wallop to break windscreens on some cars . I wouldn't have liked a bash on the head with one :o

It seems it was a very local band of storm - we were just unlucky I suppose.
 
It's not rubber necking - just curiosity !

It's difficult to get photo's that show the damage properly but I've got some pictures of the ice that were sent to me.
We were away collecting my wife's new car or there would have bee our two cars on the drive :(
The body shop I used has sorted four cars out already.
 
Oh bugger. Never seen this in Britain. Got caught out, on my push bike, in Sydney a long time ago. Every one ran for shelter, they Feckin hurt. Lots of cars wrecked that day too. :cry: Hope you grt it sorted quick. :thumbsup:

I think this did happen near Leicester about 3years ago iirc, I was on a bike forum at the time I'm sure one of the guy's work van, caravan and conservatory got wrecked.
 
I was on night shift that night and had a chance to view the storm. I have never seen an electric storm that long and that intense any where in the world.
It was bizarre!
Thanks to the weather forecast for giving us a heads up (not) :thumbsdown:
Hope the insurance pays up and doesnt call the "force majeure" card. :cry:

It seems the insurance companies are coughing up - even employing extra staff to cope I'm told.
I took mine Disco 3 into a body shop for an estimate (smart repair.) I'm sure it will be ok !

The fella opposite is getting his Tiguan done on insurance = £2600 :o
It's also said there is a company of mobile bods from Germany following incidents like this around Europe - Storm Chasers they call themselves .

Insurance will shoot up in the concentration of claims / post code areas next year.

It was quite a night up here!
I had to laugh with the the BBC talking about the weather at Wimbledon for the day. Slightly detached from what was going on.................but that's the BBC today.
 
I remember a hail storm with golf ball size hail back in the mid 70's.
It also damaged greenhouses and completely wrecked some corrugated plastic roofing we had between two buildings. Also damaged car roofs but back then people just had a vinyl roof fitted afterwards.
