Storage compartment between seats locked shut!

no fit state

As the title. Went to open the storage compartment today and it's locked shut! Read through the handbook (P 59) and it says that the central locking automatically locks and unlocks this compartment. Or in my case locks it but wont unlock it :(

On page 60 of the owners handbook, it says that "should there be a electrical defect or should the central locking system fail" you can go in to the boot (trunk) and pull the white cord to manually unlock it....but that's not working for me

Any ideas?

Ok. I've managed to "pop" the lid on the compartment with a little help from a flathead screw driver.

The sprung loaded tounge that fits into the lid and holds the lid shut is moving quiet freely, it's the just the large button that you press to unlock the lid that will not press down....I've checked the both fuses for the central locking and they are ok.

+ I've also noticed that the very similar button above the compartment lid button is also locked into postion. (though I never knew what this button was for?)

I found out today that my compartment locked, was messing around locking the car with the roof down and wanted to see what locked and what set the alarm off

Well I took the assembly apart today and from I can see it is the locking motor that is knackered. No amount of pushing will push the plunger back in and this is what is stopping the button being pressed to open the lid.

A can see a trip to the parts department tomorrow for a new one.

All fixed now :D

I managed to split the motor casing apart to find that the actual motor was fine and it was just the assembly of the gears had locked into the locked postion. After taking the gears and plunger out of the casing I fitted it all back together and everything was moving smoothly again.

Put it back together in the car and it all works as it should
