Stoptech Big Brake Kit

Don't know if I am allowed to disclose the price but f**k it :driving:
Whats better Slotted or Drilled? I like OEM disc look but the BMW calipers are shite looking

If I go for it I would get front and back... I could do with a set of new discs soon which are £625 + pads all round anyway so was considering just going for a full kit.

6 piston kit with 355mm Rotors for £2080 inc Vat.
6 Piston Kit with 380mm Rotors for £2270 inc Vat.
4 Piston Kit with 355mm Rotors for £1890 inc Vat.

Rear ST40 4 Piston Yellow Calipers reduced from £2136 inc Vat to £1700 inc Vat.

I'm no expert but mr.roy told me the grooved are better than drilled. Need 19" rims for the 355's. I'd already been researching and the the prices you were quoted are better than I've found in Europe.

Can you share some more info on them. Im a bit busy to do some proper research. Sorry for being lazy... I only got offered these todays. I've not had overheating but one of my disc might be slightly warped. Having said that it could have been a wheel weight. Not noticed it since new tyres.

Whats the best kit for our car?

May be organise a group buy on these too!

Thats what I thought and possibly lighter too. Track days pfft not my precious. Looks for me too and some better stopping power.

this thread is making me smile. some serious misinformation going on...

firstly you can squeeze a 365mm rotor under and 18" rim, secondly a grooved rotor is what you want and third, all this expense for looks??? come on guys.... if you have money to burn, spend it on your families.

This.

Grooved over drilled every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Drilled discs fill up with dust and start to crack.

Can't see them having any more stopping power over the standard really in normal conditions. If your standard brakes are in good condition, they should be fine for normal road use. Maybe add some additional brake cooling?

BBK for extreme use from high speeds, better heat dissipation etc.

Thank god some people have said this!! Why waste the money the time if you won't even use 50% of the benefit!! Z4s are great but there is more to life!! There is more to cars than looks! And if there is a hole that driving fast and family can't fill!! Well travel learn to play guitar drums.... Or just take drugs!! Surely spending 2.5k on brakes and not taking the car on track is just?????Well I just don't know what to say!!

Track days my arse, im doing it for looks
BTW drilled better then grooved, less vibration under breaking and better cooling

If your doing it for looks, don't you want a decent BBK so you can show everyone what great brakes you have. Think I would rather have my standard M brakes and £2.5k in the bank. I thought D2 were billy basic/Halfords.

Beedubs APs are what I would be going for personally!

Oh please is this a car forum?

Spend money on the family Says the man with the Porsche. Ha ha ha

Some points i would like to add:
1. Grooved discs vibrate more under breaking and trap just as much dust but i believe washing them resolves that!?
2. Drilled discs always crack........WTF?! :?
3. Spend money on family......I have none!
4. 2.5k is not a lot of money to everyone or do we all earn the same salary?! :poke:
5. I rather a D2 then the crap OEM breaks looks or no f***ing looks :!:
6. Tracking cars is sad unless u have a fast as f**k car track setup and can drive the c**t out of it! :driving:
7. Ive been on more holidays then "wheres wally" 8)
8. Its my Zed....soooooo i believe f**k off is in order

If you earn such a good salary and £2.5k isn't a lot of money to you, why don't you either:

A) Get a decent BBK
B) Get a decent car with decent standard brakes that look nice in the car park. If I saw a D2 BBK, on a chaved up car, I would just think couldn't afford APs personally.

I still don't get why you waste all this money on a old car and put shite mods on it, but it's your car and your money, so the best of luck to you.

?

This has been an amusing read. If you dont track the car and want looks then why not get some £50 caliper covers :fuelfire:

Also dont BBK's especially pretty massive 355 with 6pot's weigh more? I would check the weight of these first as Adding unsprung weight for road use will actually make your car drive and feel slower!

I was thinking about this last night. I might go for the Blue BMW uprated caliper... Seen a few of these forsale on ebay. They are Brembo and I really like Brembo. Both my Ducati bikes have them and had them on a previous car. These will look great with a set of CSL wheels.

I think getting a BBK simply for looks is a perfectly valid reason. If you can afford it go to town. But some of the responses here are just unpleasant. No need for people to jump down each other's throats....

Anyway, the 355mm six piston Stoptech kit fits behind stock 18 inch M wheels with a spacer.

You'd need custom calliper carriers at the very least plus depending on the piston size they might play havoc with brake balance and pedal firmness. I say just go with a kit with proven compatibility
