STOP START not working

Whether it happens or not is controlled by a number of things, like ambient temperature, electrical load and battery condition among others.

I had a 123d with stop/start and it often didn't happen in summer with the A/C blasting or on cooler winter days with heater running, heated rear screen on, etc. When my battery was on its last legs stop/start never happened either!

There may well be nothing wrong with the car.

After my AGM battery died in less than 5 years and my starter motor in less than 7 years I made a point of always turning it off!

He doesn't use it anyway, he doesn't like it - but he "might want to sell the car and wanted to know if it was a problem" he says. Gawd. MEN! As if there isn't enough real probs he has to go and find a hypothetical one :headbang:

This time of year it probably won't work.

Tell him to Keep Calm and Carry On!

Ignore it and keep turning it off to avoid wearing things out prematurely. As enuff_zed said it's a pointless feature. :(

I dont know what this means - but the husband says the stop start function isn't working. Is that fixable?
If that's the case I'd say you've already fixed the problem - pointless functionality that places unescessary stress on the engine and should be manually turned off with the button if it does work

Other than knackering batteries, starter motors and potentially damaging the engine..........I think stop/start is brilliant!

He always kept it switched off in his other cars, he hates it. But this car's got him paranoid. THANKS once again :driving: :driving: :driving:

As was stated..stop start to be enabled needs many factors to be ‘ok’

Oil and coolant temperature

Battery charge

Battery voltage

Battery condition

Ancillaries being used

Fortunately my E89 doesn’t have stop start ..but our two other cars do…one in winter, if not been used for several days can take 2-3 hours driving and 100+ miles before it will enable stop start..

No one is ever going to ‘test’ stop start because of all those issues..

My Z4 doesn’t have it either. My other car does though. The stop start always works after the car has had a night on trickle charge so a fully charged battery is key to it working (if you want it to). I personally turn it off every time I use the car.

Usual nonsense from the forum's resident buffoon!

I will take that as a compliment, cheers!
Your time of the month again...already?

Merry Xmas Mr Happy!

Thank you! The best of it is that he hates it and never used it on any other cars that had it, this was just him fussing. I told him what you all said, and now he's fussing about the battery condition. I thought wimmen were the ones supposed to fuss

I love it as it reduced the road tax on my Porsche and X5M, but it is always off in any case so doesn't bother me.

Or stop starting.

You can use bimmercode to either code it out, or remember the last setting.
