Stone Chips Windscreen

Hi, i came out to my car this morning to find 3 stone chips / cracks in the windscreen... there is an elevated comon area beside where i live and all the car spaces are parked around the common area. The common area is basically picnic tables which are nestled upon STONES :(

There was kids playing up there yesterday evening when i got home from work so i can only presume they were kicking stones around left right and centre. The biggest chip is the size of a 1 cent coin

I am based in Dublin and got a quote of €410 for a new windscreen from Auto Glass. They said they could repair the chips for €100. Has anyone ever got this done before or can you recommend any other options that i may have, thanks in advance...

That sucks as it's bad enough when it's a road accident a a stone gets flicked up

I had a chip repaired sometime back and could still se it under certain light conditions so had a new screen.

For that level of damage I'd get a new screen. Can't you claim on the insurance and just pay something like £75 or are oyur policies different?

Hey CJ, thanks for the reply... i am on a trade policy (garage policy) so they do not cover windscreens... prob just bite the bullet and get a new one, thanks again

Autoglass are rip off merchants. shop around. IIRC my local indy was half the price

The last time i was getting new glass i was told they keep their prices artificially high as they mainly do insurance jobs.

consequently they'll give you discounts for being RAC, AA, blue peter badge holder in an attempt to make them more reasonable to joe blogs

I had some chips repaired on my previous car to get it through an MOT - They would only repair the worst 2, saying that was the "rules" (in England I guess) so if you have 3 it'll be new screen time anyway..

The repair was easily visible too, FWIW. I wouldn't repair a screen on a decent car IYSWIM - fine for keeping a runabout on the road, but that's about it IMHO..

Mine's booked in for a new screen tomorrow, motorway stone to blame. £80 excess though.
