Stone chip

Seem to have picked up a stone chip on the bonnet. Should I bring it back to dealer or am I better off with an independent to sort? Any recommendations on Sussex based mobile operation?

a) you'll have to pay for it, b) the dealer will use an independent anyhow and c) just look for someone local, via google/yell.com that gets good reviews.

Alternatively do what I do... get the paint kit and touch it in yourself, its not that difficult. Paint, a cocktail stick and a paint tab (blade) if you're bad at it.

Z4 like many sports cars notorious imo for stone chips. If you have picked up ONE your very lucky! DIY not hard or find a reputable repair guy.

Thanks for responses guys but they do assume I have any knowledge experience or skill [emoji6]
Was really wondering if by bringing it to Bmw there could be an impact on value if I later sell it or if I get forced in to using them to protect warranty? I definitely won't be attempting to do anything myself.

It's a stone chip. Just get a touch up pen and very gently fill it in with small amounts and layers. Every car gets chips, it wond effect the value unless there are lots of them.

You will most likely get many as time goes by, 20 quid for the BMW touch up bottle and a cocktail stick and a steady hand is all thats needed, a monkey could do it :)

Tim.

Depends how bad it is, but don't go back to BMW, they will probably respray the whole bonnet for mega£.

Either get a touch up bottle as Tim says or find a reputable mobile tech, I've used a guy local to me a couple of times over the years and he does flawless repairs for £50ish :)

Thanks, was checking out these kits last night and it seems halfords do for under a tenner. There is one near where the guys are always helpful so might pop in there today.

If you are going that route I think it would be worth spending an extra few quid and buy the kit from a BMW dealer, that should ensure an exact colour match.

I don't what the Halfords paint is like but for the price difference with BMWs I would go BMW, only problem I find is once air gets to the paint in the bottle it tends to go gloopy and thick. I find keeping in a warm place indoors keeps it for longer.

Tim.

Thanks for help, went to a local who sorted it for 'a drink' back next week for a polish that is included. Anyone want a recommendation in East Sussex pm me.
