Stomp test?

Hello fellow z4 aficionados
I'm primarily wondering if you can CLEAR the codes stored in the center switched for heated seats etc, as I am on quite a tight budget. Regardless this led me to finding the stomp test for other e30-40s and I was wondering if there was a similar thing for the Z4's. Mine is a 2004. Cheers!

Edit: The stomp test was (i didnt watch the full video as I am at work) a way to reset codes on the other older bmws, without a scanner. It was a sort of input utilizing the pedals, essentially

Hi, most people clear codes using a scanner - I’ve not heard of a stomp test?
Rob
That's what Ive been doing, but I came across a video about the stomp test for other bmws to clear codes, and decided to ask as I was curious. Would you happen to know if you can clear a stored code in the ashtray switch-panel thingy? Specifically if my heated seats have a stored fault code ?

So you have a scanner? So can you clear the fault codes with it?

why didn't I think of that? :headbang:
All jokes aside the stored codes are not clearable with my scanner, as it is just advertised as a "base bmw scanner" so nothing too specific towards BMW or anything. Regarding my question, is there a way BESIDES a scanner to clear the STORED codes, as I don't even know if you can clear the stored ones with more advanced scanners, as everyone has said to buy the part new that has the stored fault code

Very easy to get misled by generic scanners and start firing the parts cannon at a car with a detrimental effect on your wallet without actually sorting the real cause of a fault code. A faulty componant can cause other sensors upstream and downstream of a part that shows up as a code to cause fault codes and EML to light. BMW software like INPA, NCS Expert and BMW Scanner 1.4 on a laptop are better for diagnostics as they read individual modules on the car. Have had a lot of success with A Creator 310+ as a portable handheld scanner for airbag codes that neither of the laptop systems could clear. It can't however clear or delete Transport Mode although it appears in the Creator's menu.

Thanks for the response! Have you had any luck clearing seat heating fault codes with that program? The general question was whether it is possible to clear them, as everyone I have asked about the topic said to buy the new seat switch as it stores fault codes, assumingly because you cant clear the codes, but they've never specified, so I unfortunately don't know

Depends what the codes are when scanned, its probably in relation to the switch or its circuit or the heating element in the seat being broken, often a broken wire in the pad from someone kneeling on it or it may just be burnt out. You could test the switch with a test lamp or volt meter, check for continuityt on the seat pads by probing the heated seat connections under the seat, you should get a circuit if the wires are intact, no continuity = broken wire. Not noticed anything on Creator 310+ for seat pads, Inpa probably got something on them.
