Stock wheels - can I put 265/40/18 on instead of 255/40/18

I would say that it's possible, however the diameter of the wheel will be greater, but not significantly. The only other issues are with the warranty and insurance because of fitting non standard parts, but that's being piniticky

According to some tyre calculator i found it will under-read by 1.21% which is 0.8mph at 70mph

I'm fairly sure that will make the thing more accurate :)

If you have 225s on the front I would stick with 255s otherwise your changing the balance of grip. If you are changing both then there is no issue but the car will drive best with the stock sizes imho.

With a 40 profile on a 265 you will have a 'taller' tyre wall so as well as the larger rolling diameter you'll have more roll in the corners. Do they do a 265/35/18?

I ran 265/35 - 18's on the rear of my 2006 3.0si. I also ran 235/40 -18's on the front and I liked that combination a lot. There are/were not a lot of tire choices in that size combination as I recall.

The circumference is 1.21% longer on 265/40... i doubt it would be noticeable

on 35 it's 2.8% smaller, which isn't ideal as the speedo will be over-reading quite a bit

pilchardthecat, You'll be fine. The sky will not fall. The orbit of the moon will not deviate. Your car will not turn into a Coupe.

I just brought some ps3 in 265/40/18 and they're fine no problems what so ever
If anything they add abit of protection to the outer rim!

275/35-18 Michelin PSS fits the rear OEM wheels without rubbing, as do 245/40-18 on the front (although I have maximum front camber adjusted to the inner most position of the slots on the strut towers). These sizes seem to be the widest that will fit and are the closest in overall diameter to the standard 225/45-18 / 255/40-18 tyres.
