stock height

before I start I'd thought i'd say how much I am really enjoying reading all the stuff on here .... its a great site with great cars and people!! (and thanks to all of you seasoned users who put up with our newbie questions  )

ok - so does anyone one have any info on the height from the floor to the wheel arches on a stock Z4? (I have an 04 3.0i SE but from my reading I gather this is the same height as any other non M zed) ......or can anyone measure theirs for me please.

Although I have had some fab comments about my car, its stance and its wheels, my plan is to replace them with refurbed 108's and to raise (yes raise!) the ride height a little. The problem i have is that I do not necessarily want to go to full stock height but because my zed is lowered already i have no reference height to know what I want to move it too (Am I making any sense?! ).

if I knew stock height to the wheel arches I could then fit the 108's and know where stock springs would take me and then from there choose springs to drop to where i want to be. Tyres on the 108's will be 225/40 and 255/35 18s

I am sure that I have seen a pic on here somewhere where someone put a tape measure up the front arch ... but I've read SO many threads since joining on here that I now can't remember where i found it

any info on this and of sites/info on suitable springs (H&R and Eibach seem to come up alot) - I'd be really appreciative .....especially if anyone knows of spring ranges ... where you can choose 10, 15 ,20, 25 or 30 mm drop versions (is that possible?) or if I should look at using any other method of achieving my plans....

many thanks everyone :D

no not that one mate .... it was a red zed and defo a tape measure!

those measurements are for a lowered zed and an M (aren't those 15mm lower?)

gookah - your eibach's were they the 30mm all round drop ones? That would make yours pre drop, 670 rear and 675 front and Angus had his at 680 at each corner.....

so - I am guessing that approx 680 would be stock then?? sound about right?

yep 30 mm all round, but I have never put a set of springs on that have dropped by what they quoted, some more, some less.

I always measure to the ground before and after as that is the look I am trying to achieve.

my originals were 670 front and 665 rears on the 2.5se model.

Take a look here - all ride heights listed in a previous post

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22091&p=311672&hilit=arch+height#p311672

As an aside all 3.0's as standard have sport suspension that is 15mm lowere than standard

Thanks CJ  so thats 15mm lower on prefacelift 3.0 SE's (which mine is)...so

So I'm looknig at stock being (on 18") 602 588 for my sport suspension.... thats a good place to start :D

although I'm not sure about this ....
Attach measure to rim flange at bottom middle and measure to lower edge of wheel arch
... so thats simply to the bottom of the alloy then yes???

Yes as the lower lip should be constant while the inner lip varies depending upon alloy thickness

Basically stock is one height, ///M sport suspension which is standard on all 3.0's is 15mm lower and most aftermarket a further 15mm lower (30mm in total vs standard)

What do you not like about the set up you are runing, looks like your are on 19s with 30mm drop

to be honest, its not that I don't like it, its just that at my age you start to look at more minor mods than my zed has at the moment. I have paid for a set of 108's for it and would like to raise it up a bit - hence the thread.

I have had loads of pm's about how good it looks at the moment, which is really nice to hear and I know others on this forum are after lowering their zeds more and adding 19's etc. etc. its just that i'd like to make it more my kind of styling... if you know what I mean

think I might put a wanted ad for some of the sport springs and sell the H&R's that are on mine
