Still looking for an E85 2.5 or 3.0 for sale upto £3200

Hi all,

Im still looking for an E85 Z4 preferably a manual and in the East Anglia region 2003 - 2006 with under 120k miles on the clock (fav colour is black or grey but would consider other colours).
I have a budget of £3200 and I am struggling to find good, clean and well looked after examples for that price, but I'm sure they are out there.

If anyone has or knows of a good Z4 for sale that meets the above criteria please can you post on here and let me know. Would also consider 2.2L Thanks.

Good morning and welcome, from another Easterly member.
There is a really nice Merlot one on fb marketplace in Norwich.

Roof issues are not the end of the world unless it is a split hydraulic pipe. Everything else can usually be sorted ok.
Regarding airbags, bear in mind that not all E85s came with isofix, which means they don't have the ability to turn off the passenger airbag.
However, I believe this can be retro fitted?
Not ure where you are exactly, but always happy to help out if I can.
I can move a roof motor into the boot for you, so if it hasn't been done already that could be a haggling point.
Good luck with the search.

Thank you so much for your reply and useful information provided about the roof and airbag warning lights, it's very handy to know. I think it's the very early pre face-lift models that don't have the ability to turn off the airbag warning light, so I will bear that in mind with my search going forward. Thank you for your kind offer of help if needed,
I live in Essex and I am currently looking for cars around East Anglia region and possibly into Kent also. I'm trying to avoid having to drive all over the country if I can help it as the few cars I have looked at so far have not been that good condition upon closer inspection.

Thanks for forwarding the Facebook Ad across for the Z4. It does look like a good example, I'm not so keen on the Merlot colour though if I'm honest. My preference is Black or Blue, but I appreciate I may have to compromise on colour if I am to find a genuine good car.

It's really good to have made contact with another Easterly member. Thanks again for responding to my message.

No problem at all.
I had an 03-plate 3.0i that had isofix and the airbag isolation switch so it's not necessarily age related.
Simply check out adverts to see if there's a light (looks like a round button) to the left side of the gear lever. Sport button is on the right.

If you see any near me I'm quite happy to take a first look for you.

I would also suggest that unless you intend to pile on lots of miles, then a well cared for example with 100k or a bit more could well be just as good. The M54 straight 6 will go on forever if you look after it.

Thank you for pointing that out about the light next to the gear leaver, I wasn't aware of that, but I will look out for it now going forward with my search.
Also a very good point you have raised about higher mileage cars. I plan to use the car more as hobby car a couple times per week so will definitely be doing less than 5k miles per year in it. With that in mind, it might be wise for me consider higher mileage cars as you have suggested. I had heard that the M54 straight 6 is a work horse and reliable.

Thanks for offering to take a first look at any cars up your way for me should any become available. That's very kind of you. I will let you know if anything comes up.

PM'd you my mobile number. Feel free to call for more of a lowdown on the M54 in particular.

Hi AshP,
If you post a wanted add on here and are willing to make a few compromises on colour, engine size, mileage and price you may be able to find a nice one.

Hi Ash. Regarding airbag warning light on, this can happen not as a result of a fault (e.g. removing/disconnecting the seats without first disconnecting the battery) and can easily be reset.

However, if you want the ability to disable the passenger airbag, then you will need a car with this option specified, as stated above.

Welcome to the forum Ash, and good luck with your search.

As others have said the feature to disable the passenger airbag was an option even on facelift models, but may have become standard some time in 2007. Certainly none of my three 2006 cars had it.

Thank you everyone for your support and advice, it's very helpful. This will be my first Z4, so I want to make sure I get it right. I'm doing plenty of reading up on here and there are some very useful topics. Thanks

You'll regret going for anything less than a 3.0i.
Hmmm, An N52 2.5si is a fair match for it tbh.

I tested a 2.5si when i was looking for mine, then drove a 3.0i 2 days later but could still compare how they pulled in 2nd and 3rd. The 3.0i just did it better imo and miles better also than a 2.5i.
The thing that really put me off an N52 was the lack of a dipstick.
That's a latent anxiety you can't live if you're ocd.
😆

The N52 certainly seems to need revving whereas the M54 has more low end grunt.
As for the lack of a dipstick....................... only when you got out!
