Stiff neck/shoulders

So I've had the car about 3 weeks now, and was just wondering whether anyone else gets a stiff neck/shoulders when driving? I've adjusted the seat several times, up down (usually settling for almost touching the floor), I've adjusted the steering wheel height....usually if its where I want it I can't see anything above 55. Is it just me? I am 5,11 but have plenty of room above my head.

I've only had mine a few days but have yet to find ther perfect seating position.

Not had any aches though.

My journey to work is 35 mins each way (on a good day).

Had this really badly once but had driven 7 hours in awful heavy rain to the National Meet in Cumbria then a whole weekend of driving ending with 6 hour drive back to London in more rain. All in 48 hours so think it was justified.

i have driven miles, done trips around europe and never suffered at all, i think its a great driving position

I have only had problems when fighting the tramlining of the infamous runflats. Since I changed everything has been fine.

I think size is a big factor (and I'm not taking the piss) I can't get the seat back far enough to extend my legs fully

I was hoping someone could suggest the optimum driving position hahaha..I feel like the seat is positioned to far to the right as well, I find myself squashed up against the left hand side..

I'll just keep messing.

it does take a bit of trial and error. The way mine is set is,seat adjusted so my knee is just bent when the brake pedal is depressed,my wrists are level with the steering wheel. The steering wheel height is set, that when seated the top of the rim allows you to see the dials. These settings work for me they might suit you. :driving:

I have programmed memory 1 and 2 for me, slightly different driving positions.. Still tinker with the positioning though! Still waiting for the perfect position.

I think the only (two) downsides of the ///M are the relatively hard ride (but it reminds me I'm in a mental car everytime I drive her) and the seats.....

Having sat in other butt-cheek warming kidney crushing BMW buckets, the ///M's are somewhat not quite up to the job.....

Took me ages to find the perfect position... I make a conscious effort to make sure that my legs are 'inside' the bolsters on the sides (so quite close together), reducing tension in my lower back, and that I am sitting quite upright. I also don't have the front of the seat up too much, so my legs are quite stretched out (I am only 5'7" though). Apparently you should be close enough to the wheel for your wrists to break over the top of it, but my arms are too short to completely manage that :D

There was a vid on YouTube of a BMW test driver showing what the best seating position is - I think it was part of the national geographic Z4 megafactory programme, but I can't find it...

Buy a leatherZ armrest

This will allow you to'level' your shoulders as the door armrest and center console don't give a level surface to rest the elbows

2 weeks of ownership and I prolapsed L5/s1 disc :(

Don't think it was to do with the Zed............ :?

That said I did find a reasonable position, I was told in the past that if you sink the base down at the rear, lifting the front part up and ensuring you have good support under the thighs, it helps with back ache as it is tilting the pelvis, taking pressure off. (Ready to be shot down in flames)

It helped when I had an Astra as a company car

I still have to tinker with the seat adjustments to find my ideal position. I have two position settings programmed in, one for long journeys and the other one for short trips around town. That works for me :)

I've gone for bottom back right down, front up, 10-15% tilt on the back and it set so my wrists touch the steering wheel if I extend my arms fully. I've lowered the wheel and can't see my speed above 50 without bobbing down but I'll see how this goes for a while. I find with the seat dropped to the floor the arm rests on the door are too high but if I raise my seat then it buts me out elsewhere. I'll just have to accept I'm not the perfect size for it ha
