Sticky steering

Hiya, I know this subject has been covered loads, but could the car being left standing and not driven for 6/7 months cause this ? I know it was fine before this period of inactivity, but now steering feels a bit vague at higher speeds. Cheers for any ideas

I probably should have added this to original post, but car felt fine initially driving round town, when I went to park it up,there what can only be described as a groaning noise from behind the steering wheel. Went for a long drive the following day, without any noises, but at higher speeds felt vague or notchey, hard to describe

Usually the groaning noise (almost sounds like a fog horn) is caused by a dry steering rack. You can remove the rubber boot on the rack and grease the teeth.
