sticky steering

So, it came to my Z4 as well - Sticky steering. At least that's what I think....

Does anyone have BMW sparepart numbers needed for fixing this issue?

My mechanic, who I trust, is in doubt, what we need to fix it. After checking the BMW sparepart catalogue for my car (2004 2,5i) he has come to the conclusion that my steering axle does not have an electric motor, but is a regular steering rod with just three components

32116777506, 21106781639 and 33306760587 which are the main rod and two small fixing parts....see link.

Please help, would like to get i fixed before winter to have safe driving...

Before jumping to conclusions, perhaps OP's car had a hydraulic steering swap...

OP, very easy to check if you have EPS (electric power steering). stick your head into the driver side footwell and flex the black trim down a bit to look behind your steering wheel. You'll see the electric motor.

Or if you don't know what you're looking at, take a picture of it and one of the hundreds of people on here (me included) will be able to identify if its there or not.

Fair point! But sticky steering with a hydraulic setup is pretty much unheard of.

This is true and I have the same thought as you. Just giving the mechanic the benefit of the doubt until there's more info.

There could be play in the knuckles themselves, before any hydraulic conversion, and as they're exposed to the elements it's possible they'd need greasing.

I had the sticky problem on another Z4, the grease was the solution; as the steering was using, and the joint became warm, it expanded and caused exactly the same feeling as the motor issue (which I had on my later Z4).
