Sticky Steering question on build date

Hi guys

Getting ready for the summer months and not sure if its in my head though but i think my 2006 E85 may have sticky steering. Having read on other sites i thought after 06 /2006 they had a revised steering worm gear....mine is build date 09/2006.

Any input would be great

Thanks

I am not entirely convinced this revised steering thing is real if I’m honest. Only a couple of weeks back I did the adjustment on an 07 E86. The motor definitely isn’t any different so can only be the gear inside the column.
More likely it is a revised bearing, but the majority of problems are simply down to the gear mesh.

Yes. Mark the ring and the motor first, then loosen the two bolts and tap the bottom of the ring away from you. About 8mm is my usual first try. Occasionally needs a little bit more.
Great I did also think of redirecting the floor vent with a small hose pipe towards the casing dont know what u think

Can’t say I’ve ever had to myself but have seen it suggested before.

I've adjusted mine, I think 3 times now and someone previously did also and someone had a go at the grease nipple trick. It's been through a winter with the heater burning a hole in my leg (wife likes it hot) and still okay.

Honestly cannot tell from that photo?
Looks the right sort.
Two on opposite sides of the motor, passing through the spacer ring from the column and into the motor.

You need the bottom panel off yes. One bolt is near the top behind that spring, the other one is diametrically opposite it behind the motor.

So yes, that has given me my bearings on your first photo now. The cable is the one from the torque sensor to the motor and that is the front bolt you have highlighted
