Sticky steering problem. Time to sort it! Help and advice.

I always thought it was normal procedure to sacrifice a little blood to the "Gods"... at least based on my personal experience with any mechanical work I've done on my Z.... which it apparently appreciates.

Why not do as you say, start with a smaller hole that fits a spray lube and try that and see if there is any immediate improvement? You can then drill larger bore hole and fit a grease point if needed.
A suggestion for a good spray lube would be a teflon based spray similar to that used for bicycle chains? Light oil with a teflon based lubricant (not "long strand" silicon heavy chain lub)

If selling the car is the final sanction, the drill and lub has got to be worth a try?

I only use lithium grease for external applications. Its very resistant to moisture but not very free flowing etc.
At the end of the day its your decision.
Just have to "weigh up" the pro's and con's and see what suits you.

Can anyone post any clear pictures/drawings of exactly where they are fitting the grease nipple? I am not actually experiencing this issue (nor do I even own a z4, yet!) but I am very interested to see how people are doing this and I guess it may be a good help to others who will inevitably experience this problem.

Hi LeoSP, I expect you used this thread: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1896932-DIY-Sticky-Clunky-Steering-Fix/

Has anyone used any sort of spray oil successfully? I can't seem to find any suitable grease fittings here in Ireland, plus I don't have a grease gun.

I read people in the states have used Remington gun oil, there must be something similar available here?

Thanks :)
