The American NHSTA has concluded after 1 year of investigation that the problem with our cars steering under hot conditions (or cold but running heater hard) is not a safety issue and does not meet the criteria to force BMW into issuing a recall. Any of us in hot weather climates know this problem is very dangerous and I'm wondering if these forums have ever had any luck convincing BMW to do the right thing. I know there are other post regarding this, but it would be nice to bring them all together in the same place and get an idea of how many cars this is affecting.

Stopped happening for me (04 3.0i) when I lubed up to the two steering column joints from the top of the engine bay. It's been hot down here lately too (+95F).

Hi ZED_NOT_ZED. This is very interesting. Hope it would be possible for you to post a picture or an "exploded view drawing" showing the steering column joints you lubed? :o
