Sticky brake calipers

 Mostly Holland. Sometimes UK.
Haven't been using the zed recently as I've been given a lovely runabout by a client to use at the mo.

Jumped in the zed today however to check battery etc. Started up fine, handbrake off and into first gear and wouldn't budge. Crikey.
Handbrake was fully off and I thought something had chocked one of the rear wheels as it was squatting when trying to move away but no, all clear, jumped back in and thought it must be a sticky brake shoe so gingerly dipped the clutch a couple of times until I heard a *DINK* and the zed broke free.

Weird. Presuming surface corrosion of the discs bonding with the pads as it's been sitting for a few weeks or handbrake shoes doing similar. Any ideas, similar experiences?

Common fault if you park a car up for a few weeks. Typically it would be the handbrake, but can as easily be the pads to disks with surface rust

Nothing to worry about. 100m drive and apply the brakes and it'll all be settled again

EDIT
Should have added that far worse is on cars without internal drums for the handbrake. They can freeze on in Winter and then it really won't move until thawed out.

The "dink" will have been the handbrake shoes coming unstuck from the drums Chris. If leaving it parked for a while, just leave it in gear.

The dink will be the UJ on the propshaft dropping bearings
Can't believe you left the hand brake on you plonker :poke:

At least it was not something that fell off this time then ....

Completely normal though, especially if it was washed before parking it up - mine sounds like a grater for the first few miles each time I use the brakes.

More common than you would think Chris, I go out to plenty of vehicles that do that, if it won't release with a bit of extra clutch jerk you give the drum a tap and that usually does the trick.
I've seen them stick overnight so not even a length of time thing.

quite common, i've had the same last week. my brake discs are quite corroded also because of the parking outside (snow&rain)

Thx all
Yep rob, all; it was washed and waxed before laying up so that would explain moisture-induced surface corrosion perhaps.
Fred- was left in reverse and handbrake off before starting with handbrake on and moved into neutral.
Weird as i have an e93 in the uk parked u and left in reverse and it never seems to grumble?
Maybe less meat on the pads giving a bigger pad-to-disc gap...?
