Sterling Grey with Grey Hood

I'm nearly a newbie - I have left a refundable deposit on a 2006 3.0si Grey with Grey roof.

The main dealer is sorting out a few things before I go back next week for a final inspection.

The main thing being the grey roof which looked pretty dirty and faded with different shades of brown and grey visible, together with lighter grey lines where the frame sits below.

I'd pretty much made my mind up not to order the car, but during the test drive & on the way back to the dealer I saw an earlier Z4 also with a grey roof parked up.

Upon inspection it's roof whilst not perfect was in a much better condition and gave me hope that "mine" could be sorted out.

I'm due back next week & am hoping for a consistent colour/shade over the roof otherwise I don't think I'll accept it.

I've told the dealer that I've read the forum and that BMW roof products are recommended & they are going to start the cleaning early next week.

Does it sound like I have a realistic hope for a good finish ?

Look at all the grey roof owners coming out of the woodwork

Grey is the new Gay. :D

and I thought fellow SMG owners would be more modern thinking . . . . . from the uber exclusive "grey roof with SMG gearbox club" - wonder if there any other members out there ? from well north of England - i.e. Scotland.

I'd say it depends on the level of fade and accumulated dirt and grime. The dealer tried to clean mine (tan top) and d@mn near rubbed a hole in it. Look at the top very closely once they finish cleaning it to make sure they don't damage it like mine. Mine is slightly different colors between the metal braces (fading), and has two black spots where it rubs the trunk rubber each time it opens and closes. I plan to replace it or dye it in the next year. Black is the better option in my opinion, as it's easier to hide dirt/grime and imperfections. It is slightly wet in the below picture; that's not the normal color it is when dry.

Thanks for your message.
I'll ask them to have the car kept inside & inspect it for damage.
I take it that a little colour fading over the framework is to be expected?
Wish me luck.

I did it !
I'm a newbie.
Picked the car up Tuesday. Day off work today for a long weekend in Harrogate.
The dealer made a fair attempt at cleaning the roof, completed by me and my son with BMW products.
Considering calling in at Otley on the way home on Sunday, are gatecrashers accepted?
