Stereo Versions...

This might be a long shot, but hopefully someone is geeky enough to know the answer :)

I have a 53 plate Z4 with a Carver stereo with Aux in.

I have 2 friends with 06 and 07 plate Z4MRs who I assume have Logic7 rather than Carver, but I'm not 100% sure. We have installed Aux in on one of theirs with exactly the same cable as mine.

Now, my Carver stereo sounds great at louder volumes - and has very very good mid and treble, but really seems to lack in low volume bass. I have the "Bass" setting in "Tone" almost on full just listening to the radio and a CD, and I have it totally full on Aux in because the volume and the bass is quite low.

The Logic7 system in the newer car doesn't seem to suffer from lack of bass at all. They have the "Bass" setting in "Tone" bang in the middle, and it sounds really bassy even on the Aux in ( with the exact same phone, and song ).

We all have DSP, and yes I've tried changing the settings - but still the bass is not as pronounced.

So, my questions are as follows:

1) Is the Carver system just designed to be less bassy ?

or

2) Does the AUX in volume/bass not being all that high on the older car have anything to do with the newer stereo ? ( theirs have slightly different radio menus for example - they can choose radio stations from a preset menu and I cannot.)

or

3) Is there probably another problem somewhere - maybe I have a dodgy cable and/or something wrong with the Carver stereo ?

Another question, maybe a bit easier ? :P

4) Where should the bass be coming from in the carver setup ? If I push all the sound to the back, then there is next to no bass at all. I've taken the grills off the lower speaker to reveal what looks like a 5 inch speaker, and it's moving - but most of the sound is coming from the smaller speaker above!

I think I may have also found the answer to my questions - could be something to do with the whole Digital / Analog thing as posted here :
