Stereo Upgrade

This has probably been asked before (and I've probably fired up in the wrong section  ) but I canna find the guidance I seek.

Having got my Z4 this week, as I suspected the basic audio system is ok but no where near as powerful as I'd like so I'm looking to upgrade.

I'm used to having an active sub in the boot but obviously the E89 is limited regarding this possibility. I'm looking at replacing the head unit, most likely with a mid range Alpine, and having one or two under seat active subs. Is this the way to go, is it possible or are there other/better options. I'm not keen on cutting holes in the rear bulkhead.

Cheers in advance.

my last 2 e89s had the basic system so i put in my old sub and amp and it made a massive difference. the internal speakers deal with mid and treble whereas the bass comes out of the boot. trust me, if you have this set up, you will not feel the need to upgrade anything else soundwise. my local car audio place charged me £120 all in to fit it including the cables and converter

heres how mine looks..... and as you can see the boot is still very practical lol

Something like that might work. That sub is a lot more compact than any of the ones I have. What make/model is it?

Cheers!!

its a jbl 12inch sub, a regular size one in a regular size box, the jbl amp is screwed to the back of the box. it does take up a fair amount of space but i can still get the top down with it in there. its plugged in with banana plugs so i can easily remove it if need be

i think its this one

Thanks> I'll try some of my ones in see how they fit. Yours just looked more compact but if its a standard size them maybe mine will fit after all.

Thanks again.

I have an alpine active sub behind my seat but not amp which im thinking of having fitted. Can you tell me where you fitted your amp?

as mentioned earlier, my amp is screwed onto the back of the sub box so you cant see it unless you pull the sub box out and look behind it
