Stereo system confusion!

I'm confused by the stereo system in my Z4M.. it sounds crap compared to a 1994 mx5 I sat in the other day with Focal speakers in the doors.. from some research (http://users.telenet.be/AcousticSolution/z4infoweb/bodycarhifi.htm) it seems to be the case that the separate door speaker compartments contain separate LF (woofer) and HF (tweeter) units, but the aftermarket replacement speakers include these in one unit and are usually larger than the 4.5" space in the door speaker sections.

I found out from BMW my system is "professional" which they said is the one up from the basic one.

So my question is:

a) Can I change the speakers in the rear and doors and if so, do they need to be woofer speakers only or can they be woofer/tweeter speakers?
b) What size are the door and rear speakers?

If you the Professional set up then you have 10 speakers

Consisting of

4 x 100mm(4.5") mid range speakers located in the doors and behind the seats. These are what you say you want to change not a woofer/tweeter

2 x 150mm(6") Woofers in the Footwells (I think that's right size might be slighly bigger)

2 x Tweeters in the Door pillars

2 Subwoofers located behind the seats.

I think the ones behind the seats are a pig to get to. But I could be wrong and have been before.

Hope this helps.

Yup the ones behind the seat require the center console and half the trim to be removed, not looking forward to that as i plan to put some full range 4" there.

Yeah. I heard one of those so called proffesional systems and was less than impressed. Mind, I find it difficult not to be critical of everything these days since just trading my Boxster S with the 11 speaker BOSE system. That was simply awesome. I read an independant Hi Fi review on that system and the upshot was you would have to spend in excess of about 50k to achieve the same sort of sound in your house, A far cry from the lowly business radio in my zed!!!! LOL
