Steptronic Auto?

Mines a 3.0, comes as standard

That's good to know. I'd ruled out having the auto box, but after reading a few posts on here praising them, it opens up a lot more cars to view as it would seem about 40% of the 3.0 have been specced with it.

Having an auto is very subjective at the best of times,, some say it is not a "proper" sports car unless it is manual :fuelfire:

I love driving autos, suits my purpose anyway, performance wise there is little to choose, and the bmw box is fantastic,

Really down to personal taste at the end of the day,, but worth test driving one to see what you think.

I'm from that camp to be honest, but the auto seems to be getting good reviews from people on here.

How do you find the manual changing of gears using the tiptronic side of it?

to be honest I hardly ever use it,, but the few times I have its interesting with no clutch, but good fun :D

I love my auto.
When I am sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in southern california it is a lot easier then constantly having to clutch every time I roll another foot or two! :(
Also when I switch from D (drive) to SD (sport drive) it's kind of cool how the car feels! It revs higher and also uses a different map. Feels much better! :D
Every now and then I use the MD (manual drive) mode too. The paddle shifters are kinda fun and I like shifting with the stick even more, but it definitely isn't the same feeling as a true manual since you are not clutching.
Anyway...I definitely have no complaints!

Chose an Auto as i have a disability with my left arm and even though i passed my test in a manual driving was hard work and in something like my Z would have been dangerous. Have not tried the manual mode you can use the stick shift by pushing back and forth to change gear have to try it one morning when the roads are quiet.

To be honest if they found a cure to get my arm moving as normall again i really would stick with auto cars as the amount of traffic on the roads driving would be pain never stop changing gear never relaxed which is why i love my Auto.

Mines a daily driver (up to 100 miles a day and 18.000 so far in 11 months) I'm a convert and as a mate of mine said in a recent drive, the auto makes it a 'point it, floor it and go car' none of that achy left leg syndrome  btw I always swore by manuals and said that autos are for grandparents :poke: , but I'm converted and i'm in my 30's !

Don't get me wrong I love ragging a manual caterham on tracks but day to day you can't beat the idiot proof auto

I use my Steptronic in auto mode mostly in traffic. On the back roads and interstate, it gets switched to manual mode. For hard acceleration, just step it down two gears and press on the loud peddle, then just tap the shift lever to change gears. Keeps the hands on the wheel for better control and allows more flexibility. Not quite as fun as a manual but almost. When coming to a stop, it will automatically down shift for you, down to second gear.

I just wish it had a sixth gear and the torque converter stayed locked up more....
