Steerings gone funny

Just pulled into the car park at the pub off a pretty quick road and there is a bit of a rut over a grate.
The steerings gone mental heavy and a light came on the dash. What's going on or what have I broken?

I switched the car off and back on but it was the same so I left it be for a bit and will see if it rights itself in a bit

If it doesn't right itself after a 20 minute wait (enough time for the systems to go to sleep) do a battery disconnect reset. Check you haven't blown a fuse for the steering system. (No idea what fuse it is)

Ok no fuses are blown and its still the same after a few hours.

How does this system work?

Everything else works on the car

Hang on the sport button is goosed and not working either although the fuse is still ok

ECU buggered?

Either way your going to have to run diagnostics on the car

Guessing so it seems that way. I don't have the sticky steering. Can you replace the ecu without having to replace the whole column

If no fuses gone, do the battery reset, especially if other things are messing about. Essentially reboot your car, or turn it off and on again. :)

ill try that tm when i have the radio code to hand and im not using a iphone torch in a car park :) but reading about it is exactly like the stories that people talk about where they have to buy a new column. i hope not.

everything on the car works fine abs, traction, roof, all the toys etc the only two bits that are not ok are the steering and the sport button

this makes very interesting reading regarding the sport button and how it interacts with the steering
