I'm the first to admit.....

The stock z4m steering wheel was to me, THE best id ever had the pleasure to use! i loved it.... it looks great, i loved the Tri stitch but most of all, i love the feel of it, the thickness and to me it really was the top tier. For xmas 22 i treated myself to a quick release hub and a momo model 07 in nappa due to needing the wheel abit closer to me after a seating position change , and my world opened up to a new experience of really thin steering wheels. It wriggles around in your hands, transmits so much more feedback and asthetically takes things to a new dimension, this is my first experience of an high end aftermarket wheel, then i added a highly tuned metro GTI to the fleet and that itself has another MOMO and yet again its FULL of feel, thin and just connects me to the driving experience so much more, imo anyway.

So whats your flavour - Thick or thin and WHY???

here's a pic of my two after market wheels, if you have an aftermarket wheel or a modded stocker, throw up a pic please, would love to see it!

I was lucky enough to try a mate's that he'd got refurbished at Royals in their special 1.5x thickness which sits pretty much halfway between standard and M Sport. That was perfect IMO and when I get my wheel refurbished soon I will be going for that spec.

I could never get used to the full M Sport thickness one, maybe my hands are too small

Funny you should say that but Gordon Murray I believe has a similar opinion and has thin steering wheels in his cars.

Thin for me also. I put a Mewant leather cover on my standard wheel a while back now and it's plenty thick enough for me. Nice and firm too. I really don't like a fat, spongy wheel you can barely get your hands around.20200906_171649.jpg
Years ago I had a thin OMP wheel in alcantara in my bike-engined track car, the best I've ever held. With its sculpted handgrips it suited that car perfectly in combo with the quick-rack  MAP0042_Aintree.jpg

changed mine to a mod 69 momo (same diameter 350mm), way prefer it to the standard M wheel for feel, has a lot less padding.

Any links for buying thos? was considering this for my wheel as well. Wondering if there are tutorials out there for this diy

Well I just pulled the trigger on a mod 07, delivery next week. It'll not be going on particularly quickly but I'll pop some pics up when it's on! Need to figure out the horn wiring and airbag resistor... Any tips on that (Tom and Byron) gratefully received!!

Strangely I've been thinking about this recently, and may swap back to the standard Z4 wheel I recently refurbished. The thick MSport one is great, but I'm starting to get the whole thinner-wheel-experience benefits.

With the Momo 07, I'd also be interested to hear how it works out from a fitting, airbag and horn pov

Thin for me, I like the feel of precision it gives and together with the round airbag looks retro.

Bought mine on Amazon several years back now. Plenty of options in leather, artificial leather, alcantara, thread, colours etc :D

Amazing, cheers! will definitely consider it. held off from getting the M steering wheel because i too prefer a slimmer grip

When I had my Individual steering wheel retrimmed I had it marginally slimmed down. The original is as thick as the M-wheel, but doing this has made it slightly less thick but equally “deep”. With fairly large hands, this has made it perfect to me

Here’s mine in a photo I took yesterday. Standard MSport MFSW dimensions.
It feels great, of course - but the more I look at it the more I think I prefer the ‘standard’ 3 x spoke thinner wheel.

I’ve always liked the thin wheel in my zed, feels better when pressing IMHO. But I do like the think M sport wheel in my x5- seems to suit the car.
