E46 wheel will fit. I’d check to see if anyone on the e46 forum has done an upgrade. Will then be transferable to the Zed platform.

Just be aware that a MFSW from an E46 will have buttons for cruise because they don't have a stalk for it like the E85/86s do.

That brings back memories. I recall I had phone buttons on my e90 despite not having Bluetooth phone prep. They didn’t do anything (obviously!), which irritated me at first but after 100,000 miles I really didn’t notice…

Both my E46s, E90 and E91 had those buttons too, but no Bluetooth so I'm used to ignoring them!

The cruise buttons on the e46 steering wheel can be made to work on the Z4. You need to swap one of the wires over in the connector to the slip ring.

That could be handy given how expensive the stalk controls are now!

That's got money maker written all over it!

I noticed that E46 owners, when fitting an aftermarket steering wheel, were using Z4 cruise control stalks. They would swap pins 2 & 3 over on the 4 pin connector that plugs into the cruise control on the steering wheel and plug that into the Z4 stalk.

This ended up with me making the following:

That's an interesting post Usel.
Just wondering, are all e85's pre-wired for cruise control and it's just a matter of sourcing the stalk?

AFAIK it's only 2003 and early 2004 Z4s that are prewired for all the options.

But forum member srhutch makes up the section of loom you'll need for not much cash.

Are the original stalks NLA?

I understand the work around is a good solution, but looks like a lot of time was spent!
As always, thanks for the thread! Many of yours are informative and always a good read!

They are still available new but the price is around £250. Before 2020 they were around £100.

Second hand ones are £100‐£150 and sell almost instantly.

I have more than one Zed and also a friend wanted cruise in their car so out came the multimeter and soldering iron :D

I mainly use the cruise for 20/30/40 speed limits as they are ever increasing.

Thats good to know, thanks for the info! :)
I use mine on the motorway when I get to a 50 average speed... too many of those cropping up.
