Steering Wheel Refurb (Are they the same)

I want to get my Steering wheel refurbed during winter hibernation but want to keep the old one with my car so intend to buy another used one and then send that off to get sorted.

My car is a Z4m which I think has a bit thicker steering wheel than a standard car? Does anyone know if that is just that padding so essentially the same wheel as they seem easier and cheaper to buy than a specific M wheel. Also are the wheels generic across the range so would an M3 of the same approx age fit.
 
Sorry I can't offer much help, but the facelift Sport models also have the M-Sport steering wheel complete with an M badge so that might widen your options.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect there is more difference than just padding. Also the covers on the spokes are black on the M-Sport wheels, but silver on the others.
 
One from an M3 will look shite. Only oem E85/6 wheels look right.

Just make sure you buy a Sport wheel. Diameter and spokes are different.
