Hi

After seeing royal steering wheels site I have been fancying get my M sport steering wheel recovered (it’s decent/good condition but it has had near 15 years of use on my 07 E86 3.0si.

I was thinking the Alcantara finish but they also have nappa leather if anyone got hints, tips or opinions of getting it done or not 😃

Or any other options than royal , but seem pretty good and lots custom options and can send a new wheel and send back old one so all seems good.

Cheers

I’m in the process of getting mine done by royals. I had my previous wheel from another zed done and the quality of his work is 2nd to none.

I’ve gone for a Nappa leather with perforated sides and blue stitching to match my interior - that’s on a M wheel.

I had my previous non M wheel done the same, but with extra padding and M stitching.

I’m just waiting on the quote. But for the exchange basically they send you a refurbed wheel to match your own custom design you then use your own buttons and paddles if you have. You pay credit card deposit for the wheel and when they receive your one they refund it.

Update my quote was only £180 plus £9.99 postage so consider it cheaper than I was expecting.

However still deciding someone put me onto these covers https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-ALCANTARA-STEERING-WHEEL-COVER-TRI-F32-F30-F34-F87-M2-F80-M3-F82-F12-F13-F85-/174478268731?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

You sow it yourself but there a couple of tutorial videos and looks easy enough process there is varying other options on quality but around £50, I watched tutorial on removing steering wheel which also easy enough process so I’m considering this route my only concern is making already thick steering wheel thicker but I like thickeness and figuring won’t add too much by re-trimming they would cut off the oem leather and add the new this goes on top oem leather

I’d did my own with an EBay/Chinese thing for about £35 I think it was. It wasn't terribly difficult.

That looks really good.

Did you take the steering wheel off to fit?

As said before my concern would be how thick the wheel is now as I already think mine is quite thick compared to my 640 which is an SE model.

I have just sent my wheel off to Royal’s this morning. This is the second one he has done for me. Jack is a one man band so is sometimes difficult to get hold of. But persevere he is a really nice guy and I am sure you would be pleased with the finished wheel.

Not sure he is, I was getting emails from Jack and Josh when I enquired. I gave up eventually after being ignored.

I’ve been mailing and had reply’s from both fast and detailed and going extra mile to help in that I was fancying the exchange option but they didn’t have my exact wheel and offered an alternative in that a suitable wheel while I then send my original to get re-trimmed etc so get service I’ve found

I guess you can only speak as you find. I rang yesterday on his mobile and Jack couldn’t have been more helpful. He then sent me an email at the end of the working day with the quote in writing. I posted my wheel off to him this morning. I had a similar experience three years ago when I had my first wheel done.
I have seen other posts like yours occasionally over the years. I do know he gets very busy and being on his own the volume of business puts him under a lot of pressure. That doesn’t explain or excuse his failure to respond to your enquiry. I can only reiterate what I said earlier. If you keep trying (I got him on the mobile number)) you will eventually get hold of him and I pretty sure you wouldn’t be disappointed with his work.👍

I'll echo that. I've had two wheels re-trimmed by Jack in the last couple of years. On both occasions excellent friendly service and lovely workmanship. He's also very helpful and happy to advise on thickness of wheel padding etc. First Class

My problem is I just can’t decide I fancied the Alcantara finish not sure why as not actually touched or seen in flesh then I seen some photos of the nappa leather and prob right finish for my e86 but I’m still undecided 😊

I'm sure he is very good, there are too many positive comments about him across a variety of forums for him not to be.

We all miss things or make mistakes at times and I'll probably have another go at some point in the future.
