Steering Wheel plastics worn - can they be replaced/tidied?

All three spokes have visible wear, particularly the 9 0clock spoke which a small 2mm square section has worn through to the white plastic. Its really bugging me.

Has anyone had similar and what did they do to sort it? Can you refurb them in some way or is it better to buy the plastics from BM, assuming they're available separately?

I considered wrapping mine in Matt black vinyl but never got round to it.

Mine only had a few little chips though where the Matt finish had come off so wasn't that bad to be fair.

You can get replacement parts from BMW but as you can imagine they aren't cheap!

The steering wheel trims are the same as the grab handle trims, I spayed my grab handles with plasticote pewter spraypaint with a good few clear coats over the top not a perfect match but near enouth.

They are Matt black on the M wheel but guess they could be painted just thought wrapping might be a bit more hard wearing giving their position. :)

I'm going to wrap a set in carbon wrap next week, I'll let you know how I get on and whether it covers all blemishes :)

Probably - I want to get the multi function buttons off too though, so are they screwed on ? I shall check tomorrow !

WARNING the trims have a tendecy to break especially the bottom one for some reason the the bosses the screws are screwed in to snap off, its a crap design. You think you are undoing them carefully but no snaped off .There can be glued quite easily though.

wouldnt mind trying to paint mine. I have chrome line interior but I have silver plastics on the MFSW I bought, So I would like them to match and get rid of the marks caused by previous owners rings etc.

Not sure I want to attempt removing them now.

P.S. I tried carbon fibre wrap, but didn't like the results. I think you need carbon elsewhere in the interior for it to work. but I have aluminium dash not that wicked carbon leather!

Mine were resprayed by the dealer prior to purchase, because I thought they were a bit tatty. 6000 miles later they have gone slightly shiny but the scratches aren't easy to see. Certainly better than the £800 I was quoted for a proper //M wheel.

I have several carbon covered bits around the car so i guess I'll give it a go...

I should have a whole load of real carbon interior ASAP so everything may match nicely.
