Steering Wheel Compatibility

Hi all! I have a 2009 automatic with the push pull paddles. If I were to upgrade to a newer steering wheel with the +- paddles instead would this be a straight swap? Is any coding required? I've seen a 2014 E89 wheel and I'd love to upgrade to this after a Royals refresh.

Thanks!

The newer paddles are compatible retrospectively, you don't need the complete wheel.

Excellent that's great news! So far in my search it's been much cheaper to buy a complete wheel with the switches oddly enough. Do you know if there are any issues with the multi-function switches between the 2009 and 2014 if I get the new wheel?

All years are the same for the multi function switches. The differences are only down to the Black (M-Sport) or Mat Chrome (Standard) surround finish, the switches are the same.

I swapped a 2011 for a 2012 with the later paddles ..no issues of course both wheels have to be from auto / DCT version

Brilliant thank you! I'll get the one I'm looking at and do the switch then. Now I just have to work out how!
Removing and replacing the wheel is included in my cruise control retrofit video. So long as you don't touch the slipring then you'll be fine and not need to reset the steering angle sensor
