Steering wheel change - couple of questions

Hi,

I'm in the middle of changing the steering wheel on my 2006 Z4. (No multi function).

I've got the air bag off without any problem, and I'm struggling with 2 things:

1) Removing 2 wires from a black and yellow connector box.. Ive upload an image of this and its the 2 wires on the right of the picture - brown and red. My new steering wheel has these and they have metal 'caps' on the end that look like they'll slot right into this connector box.. I just cant seem to get the current ones out.

2) I need to buy a breaker bar and socket for the nut and was wondering if someone could tell me what size socket I need? I've attached a pic of the but too.

Any help would be great! Many thanks :)

I think there is a clip on the connector block, you need to pry the clip up and it comes apart ( If I remember correctly)
I used a a standard socket set to remove my wheel, just give the ratchet a smack sideways with your hand.

1. Wires are attached to the wheel... As per this link
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-E85-2003-E86-03-09-3-THREE-SPOKE-BLACK-LEATHER-STEERING-WHEEL/232947850369?epid=2211407860&hash=item363cc61c81:g:zj8AAOSwqeVbsbhR
So doesn't need to be disconnected IMO.

2. 16mm (could be 17mm) I used a long torque wrench which I use for doing the wheel bolts up so I can get the leverage to crack it. But could also do like firebobby said with a quick tap to break it free.

Thanks for the replies... I've got the wheel off and the new one in place, but it looks the the new wheel is missing a junction box and just has wires, not a problem as I have the junction box from the old wheel.. the problem is one of the wires off the new wheel has a damaged terminal / clip (not sure of the actual name sorry)... so it wont clip into the junction box.

I've attached a pic that might explain better - the brown wire is fine, the red one has the broken clip. Can anyone point me in the direction of a new terminal / clip so I can remove the broken one and fit a new one?

Thanks!

Just swap the wires over from your old wheel. The wires are held in place by a spade type connector I think. I've circled the bit that should come out. I think your photo shows the wire as running behind the metal mechanism bit, so do the same. The picture I've found shows it routed in front. But running behind is better IMO.
