Steering wheel buttons

Just picked up a 30i to replace my wife's 2.5si.

Need a different y cable, so listened to the previous owners music from the hard drive on the way home.

Weirdly, we have to click the down (usually 'back') button on the steering wheel to progress a song, the up / next (as per e85) starts the current track again.

Is this usual, or has it been removed at some point??

Bump!

I have my old 4s phone holder, which works perfectly, however the down button goes to the next track, the up button restarts the current track.

This feels counterintuitive.

Is this the same on all E89s or do we have a special limited edition one?

Thanks

Matt

Do you have Idrive?

Down moves down the list of tracks and up moves up or starts the current track again. Anyhow think yourself lucky however it works because my new Merc doesn't have any track buttons and is a pita to change tracks.

To the OP, yes that's how it is with Idrive. Does seem counterintuitive at first.

The logic seems to be that a list of music tracks starts at the top, so to advance to the next one you need to move down.

I asked the very same question a while ago OP, seems un-natural does'nt it but you'll get used to it, I first thought that the buttons had been installed the wrong way round in the wheel, but as said it scrolls down the list so makes sense when you think about it.

Any pics of the new steed?

Thanks!

I can see the logic of moving down a list as per the idrive screen, but am 100% convinced that my 2008 E60 and 2013 F10 5 series, along with the 2012 R56 JCW all worked on the up arrow to change tracks forward...and all had idrive or in the case of mini, the equivalent.

Very strange that it isn't the same button orientation across a range of cars by a manufacturer. Thinking about it, I'm also convinced the E90 is set up like the other cars I've mentioned. I reckon they got it wrong on the building instructions as they were written pre-launch & rather than admit they were wrong the Germans simply stated that this was the way it was meant to be!

At least I know its not our car though, just all of them!

I don't have any photos yet, will try and get some at the weekend (and maybe a go behind the wheel, as only drive it for the test drive). Felt very comfortable vs my MR despite hers sitting on 19" alloys. she has gone for white with red leather. Looks great.

Why do you expect logic? Some models have the flappy paddles up / down with left, right, push, pull and other models the opposite.

At least with your Intravee you can switch the turning direction for up down to what you think is logical.

My handbrake on the Porsche is the wrong way around as well (according to me), and opposite to other models in the range for push - on, pull, off ...

Pushing a handbrake for on is very counter-intuitive, something that didn't need changing!
