Steering wheel badge change

Hi.
Do you have to remove the black centre of the steering wheel to fit a new badge ?

As far as I know you have to get a whole new airbag assembly... the badge is hooked into the steering wheel boss and removing it damages the airbag ...

I ended up sticking a adhesive badge on top of the original .. it’s OEM other than it being a satin matt finish looks seamless ..

I bought one on EBay when I had my E85 and stuck it on. It looked fine but I did hear that there are some risks if the badge flies off should the air bag be deployed.
