Steering Vibrations @ 80-85mph

Hi,

After having my rear tires changed and a full geo alignment I am now experiencing steering vibrations at around 80 to 85 mph.

I also had the front tires swapped round.

I went back to the tire place and they rebalanced the front wheels. they said that my bushes need replacing and that is possibly why it's happening.I told them that this was not the case before changing my tires, but they said it may have only started as after the geo setup the bushes moved about )or something like that).

He showed me that the front bushes were gone because there was a lot of play in the front wheel when pressing on the spoke with his foot.

What are people's thoughts? I think I may need to replace wishbone bushes, but I still find it weird that it only cropped up after the alignment. If not the alignment could it be the fact that I swapped the front tires around?

My initial thought is the balancing was less than optimal. Swapping from side to side would make no difference, but front to rear could. It is conceivable for poor alignment to mask worn suspension components. For example, excessive toe in could place significant inwards compression forces on the suspension, taking the slack out of the worn components.

bcworkz, Thanks. :)

OK so I think I'll buy the front set of powerflex bushes (Front WB + Front ARB) and the wishbones themselves and get them all replaced.

Do I have to check the alignment again?

I had serious vibration under braking at hose speeds peddy, and it was one of the control arm bushes. Think changing them is a good call

I've been living with similar, and after putting vred ultracs all round its massively improved, but not gone. I know my bushes are good as i recently swapped all of the front for new meyle parts. It is lowered though, and i'm sure the front dampers are dying, and giving some of the vibration. New lot of bilsteins ready to go on should hopefully get it all back.

My point being, everything on mine is new bar the shocks, so its my last item to change, then another geo. Maybe inspect them for signs leaks?

Could it be relating to parts wearing differently after your accident? I seemed to remember that you had to straighten a few things.

I doubt it. That was nearly two years ago and on the rear wheel. I had no vibrations until I changed my rear tires and got all wheels balanced and done an alignment.

I'm going to change all my front bushes, wishbone and then see how it goes.

Try Hunter Roadforce balancing, sorted my Zed out (I also had the problem after new tyres fitted).
