Steering rack issue???

Hi guys, hope someone could help.

When at motorway speed traveling straight roads my steering is very twitchy, it's fine any other time just when I'm going over 60mph. It's even fine in the corners, I have checked tyre pressures and I don't use run flat tyres so could this be a steering rack issue.

I have a 07 plate car but here the steering rack issues were with earlier models.

Thanks for looking Karl

From what you have said I don't think so.

Have you checked tyre pressures, how worn are the tyres, and what is the condition of the road where you experienced this problem?

I have found low pressures, worn tyres and HGV ruts all affect the steering.

Oh, and so do worn drop-links!

I'd look at all of those things before I worried about steering!

Sounds like worn control arms/ bushes and drop links. I would get them checked and an alignment check and hopefully all will be well.

Not had my coupe long but this was an issue also. Any road camber change and the car would try to kill me …

I had the geometry checked and reset. tyre pressures checked. The only play in the front end I could see and feel was the main control arm bushes.

I changed them yesterday for power flex bushes and the difference was noticeable immediately . Would like a bit more castor and toe-in now to give a slightly better feel.

I initially thought I wasn't on run flats but having inspected them closely I was…. I immediately replaced them with a nice new set of pilot sports and the car is transformed… Having had new bushes, steering arms, geometry, tyres balanced etc … As already been mentioned a hundred times.. check for run-flats and get-rid… I have fallen in love with the z4 coupe again.. I might even buy another( at current prices) for a winter car!! How could non run_flats affect affect insurance prices when the car was trying to kill me with them!!!

Thank you forum...
