Steering rack inner joints KAPUT

Put my car back on the toad this weekend out for the first tentative drive on new tyres new discs pads and there's a terrible knocking from the front end,,,metallic,,just called at a local Indy whom I know and it needs the steering rack inner joints replacing,,,you can feel the movement and knocking when you grab them and the wheel is rocked,,,,,anyone else had this issue,,?,,I've never heard of it before..?

Common failure point on most cars. Might as well get both inner and outer track rod ends done since its probably only about £30 or so difference. Will need an alignment after though.
