Steering Puzzle?

I bought a 2003 3.0 Roadster 1 month ago an have been slowly sorting out the little niggles and simple mods courtesy of this forum (which is superb, reminds me of the Fiat Coupe Forum, very friendly and helpful). When I bought the car it tramlined quite badly as it had runflats on the front which were due renewal, I replaced them with new budget tyres and got the front wheels aligned, it did make the tramlining better, however it did not take it fully away. Today I put the rear wheels on the front to test the theory it was the front alloys and have just returned from a little run on the motorway where the tramlining was gone? Can anyone shed some light on possible next move (changing wheels back tomorrow), get front wheels balanced? Many thanks in advance.

I'm assuming that you don't have a staggered setup, swapping fronts and rears around :) For next steps, I would look at getting a hunter alignment done to ensure everything is straight and true.

Also, you mention "budget" tyres - not sure how budget you've gone - there are mid-range tyres like Vreds which have proven pretty popular on here (I have them on my summer wheels); maybe a better purchase next time?

I do have staggered set up, had 255 on the front only to prove for my piece of mind, my 2 tyres were £140 so pretty low budget, spend £30 on front wheel alignment last week, no real difference, does the hunter make that much difference? will try and get the wheels balanced again over the next few days to see if there is any difference, thanks for the advice.

Yes hunter is different ,save the £30 you are going to spend again ,and as markeg says ,get hunter alignment more expensive ,around £120 depending what they need to adjust ,or if things break under adjustment as this can happen if things are severelly seized.you will get a true picture of how far off your car currently stands against factor recomended settings.
