Steering contros - Retro fit

Hi guys,

I bought a z4 e85 with no steering controls. I'm so used to them on my Audi so I thought if I buy a wheel with controls, there is a plug on the wheel ring, it would work. But they don't? :thumbsdown:

Any ideas?

This is something I have on my to do list. I remember seeing a thread some time ago that showed a MFSW being fitted and I believe there is a small loom that may be required. My question to the guys that know, is if fitted are there limitations for what the new MFSW can operate.
 
I fitted a MFSW on my 2004 Z4 and the plug was there and all works as it should I think. The voice control button did speak to me in french then a couple of days later was in english and i did nothing to change it. Weird.....
 
Hi John,

Can you remember if it was just the white plug that comes away from the controls that you plugged in?

Is there a way if telling if it is connected to the plug that connects in to the back of the stereo?

Yeah I think it was. There was a spare socket for it to go into just next to the ones where the airbag and horn wires plug in. There is no way to see where the wires go to unless you take more parts off the car around the colomn I imagine.
 
You will probably need the retro fit wires from the steering boss to the loom. I made my own wires to do this.

Someone on here (I think) has done this recently with a very good write up/ pics. Or maybe it was on Pistonheads.

Thanks mate, I cant see anything about steering controls though?? But now it has me thinking of a cruise install

That's the one I used, I just used 2 pieces of wire and spliced into the loom.
