Steering column question

Hi guys, wondered if anyone could provide a quick answer. Will the steering column from a 56 plate 07 Coupe fit a 05 plate 05 Roadster? I've just bought the latter vehicle from a guy in London and the car displayed the dreaded sticky steering problem when i was driving it home to Northumberland.:(
Sorry I know my first post shouldnt be a question but I'm sort of desperate to get this resolved quickly. Any help will be great
Cheers
Steve

First up be sure it's 'sticky steering', when I first got my Z4 it was a nightmare with the steering being pulled around and a stop-start feel to the steering on occasions. Firstly if you have the OE Bridgstone run flat tyres they will cause a LOT of tram-lining on white lines, road joints or ruts on the motorway. Ditch these and the car is transformed.
Several members including myself have also cured this problem by lubricating the two UJs in the lower steering column where it runs forward from the bulkhead. For good measure I had my local MOT station give the suspension the once over and got a full four wheel alignment done, all sorted, never had another problem.

Back to your question, I believe that the 07 Coupe column is the later type, should be a direct fit and is referred to on the below link which I kept from when I was having a steering column panic

Thanks for that, since I posted this earlier I managed to source the VIN number of the donor and confirmed that the part is compatible, it’s now winging its way Northward. Understand your experience with runflats and tramlining, they’re awful and I’ve changed to non runflats on a couple of BMWs in the past. This was definitely sticky steering, it wouldn’t self centre and remained “stuck” until I pulled quite hard, it then freed up and over corrected. It was awful, I drove into a service station and the steering positively creaked when I moved the wheel around. The following day when I drove it it was fine until the heater got going and warmed the whole column up. The guy I bought it from is being reasonable and has agreed to fund the replacement column so I’ve got nothing to worry about really. Thank again for the prompt response.
