Steering column issues

Hi everyone,
I’m new to the Forum and seeking help. I have owned my 2004 Z4 for 5 months now and I’m trying to avoid scrapping a 16 year old 43,000 mile car.
My model is the 2.2 Auto and I’m trying to find a steering column complete with servo.
I’ve looked into getting the old one repaired but the specialist that it was sent to stated that it had previously been repaired to a poor standard and therefore he would not touch it a new one is £2232.00. Which is a little out of my budget range for obvious reasons.
So I find myself looking for a second hand one. This in itself is proving very difficult.
So are there any forum members with any steering columns out there that are for sale, or have knowledge of any for sale.
Thanks for reading.

it sounds like you might not be in the UK?

Thanks Rockhopper I will look into that company.

Hello firebobby,
It’s the age old problem by the look of my research.
The DTC warning light comes on whilst driving and all power steering fails whilst your driving.
Bottom clenching when going round a corner.
Problem I have is a previous owner has had the same issue with the car and has sent the column off for a dodgy repair. This was discovered when the garage I use got it sent back to them by the company they use stating due to previous poor repair my column could not be repaired and they refused to look at it.
That’s why I’m trying to source a second hand one.
Which leads me to another problem. There are not a lot of 2.2 auto ones about🤷‍♂️

Dont think you specifically need one from a 2.2 auto.. any pre facelift model would be fine.. possibly even the post 2006 cars too but not 100% sure on that one

+1

The part numbers for the column assembly are different for the auto and manual, it may be worth checking what the differences are to see if the faulty component is used on both as this may open up your options. It sound rather like your garage may be opting for the easy option of changing the whole thing.

Did you ever get this fixed? If so how?
