Steering Column Fix - Torque Sensor (save £2000)

Already been order! I’m glad it wasn’t the electric motor
That went bad. I have a foxwell bidirectional scanner I hope its
sophisticated enough to relearn the column

If you bolt your original motor back to the new column then you may have to adjust the eccentric ring to alleviate any 'sticky steering'.
The only other thing you will have to do is calibrate the Steering Angle Sensor. Be warned that when I did this it needed redoing about 20 miles later but since then has been fine.

Gotcha, I read it needed to be about 5 mm shifted counter clockwise. I even seen people move it like 8 mm to give the expanding metal a little bit more room. My bidirectional can perform the steering angle adjustment so I should good. Duly noted about adjusting it after 20 miles, thanks for the tip. Should glob it with grease?

It only 'may' need a recalibration again. Not definite.
I assume you mean grease the motor worm drive? It only has a tiny amount of very light grease on it. I wouldn't add any more.
I'd suggest you note the exact position of the spacer ring between the motor and the column on the old one and replicate that as a starting point when you fit it to the new column. Then adjust if it doesn't feel right. Very much trial and error.

Gotcha and yes greasing the worm gear. I think I manage to post a photos below. I hope the BMW gods help me out getting it right the first time lol

Conclusion to my 611c problem. I got the used steering column from eBay for about 100 bucks and it worked out perfect! I was able to recalibrate everything and had moved the eccentric ring about 6mm so lets hope its good there. Its like 90 plus degrees outside here in Florida so this will be a perfect environment to see if I get sticky steering. thanks for all the help!!

I have gone hydraulic but while I was pulling the EPS motor I was thinking it wouldn’t be too hard to install a 12v pc fan under there blowing on the area with the eps motor and it’s worm gear as the reality is metal expands very slightly with heat and a fan would keep it consistent steering feel. I doubt it would need much airflow just some airflow.

Is this the same unit/EPS found on thr E89? Ours (2016) has a steering-torque sensor fault (63ED). Thr symptoms is the EPS cuts out when you approach full left lock. Turn off thr car and restart the engine clears it.

The car has a private warranty until June 2025 so we are hoping we can cover the repair with that. Not sure if is the actual sensor or an angle issue or the motor maybe needing a refurbishment.

Hey everyone! Amazing info on here. I had my EPS module rebuilt by ECUtesting and upon reinstallation, it threw the 611c fault. I’m in this $700 so far, and will try the torque sensor rebuild, but if that fails, can I just buy a column and attach my freshly built EPS module onto it? I see a pinhole on the face of the EPS module but not sure how to avoid wasting more money and time by ruining another torque sensor wirhba second hand column.
