Steering Column Compatibility?

Hi guys,

I've been offered an EPS upper steering column from a 2007 2.0 Z4 and was wondering/hoping it might fit my 2003 2.5, as I've been experiencing some of the good old "sticky steering" recently, due to this hot weather, and so I thought I may as well get it sorted.

Any of you got any knowledge on compatibility between models with these things? I know the "M" was hydraulic, and that they modified the electric columns some time during 2006 to combat the sticky issue, but other than that, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this column should drop straight in my '03 2.5?

Any advice or info will be much appreciated

Thanks

Russ

it should be the same as the pre-facelift column was deleted and replaced in the spares catalogue by the post facelift. make sure it's for the same gearbox type ie manual or auto if its manual you are looking for part number 3230678073. Real OEM has some more info. Note that TIS is very specific in mentioning that the locking pin MUST be fitted to a column BEFORE its removed or it may not work so check this is the case.

Thank you for the advice!

Regarding the "locking pin", does anyone know exactly what this looks like? I've googled it, but can't even seem to find a mention of one on there.

Where would a breakers (or anyone else for that matter) be likely to obtain one of these pins without having actually purchased a new column from BMW at some point previously?

Thanks for any info

Russ

Yes it's nothing fancy just a U shaped pin that slips on the bottom of the steering column and prevents any rotation, apparently things can break and the sensors go awol if it's not used. I think someone on the forum did a swap without it but it's an expensive risk. I suspect most breakers yard chimps won't bother. I haven't got access to my copy of TIS at the moment but if you get one it is covered with the BMW tool part number.
