HI, I have a 2003 3.0i Z4 and have the sticky steering issue. I have adjusted the motor to column eccentric ring a number of times, and it helps undoubtedly, but the problem always returns to some degree .
I have checked the bushes, and all appear as new, and the fact I have stopped and adjusted the steering at the side of the road and eradicated the problem temporarily leads me to believe my column is beyond saving.
I have sourced a 2007 column and am going to swap out, but can anyone tell me if I will need to take the car for recoding to get rid of warning lights, or is there a self learning procedure to reset the steering limits etc? Based in central Scotland so any recommendations for someone friendly to help recode or clear the codes should they appear?
One problem I have is the column has arrived with the ignition barrel in situ and no key. Is there a way of getting the barrel out without risking damage to the column?
Finally, before I attempt this, has anyone actually completed the conversion to Hydraulic PAS and if so, what functionality is lost from the stability control etc? I could live without the sport button, but do not want a dashboard full of warning lights ?
Thanks in advance.
