Steering column bearings Z4MC problem

Hi fellas.

Had a tiny amount of movement from the steering wheels (towards and away left to right also) we're talking mm here. NAyway a strip revealed some movement in the bearings so I have to change the intire unit.

Considering the car only had 72k km when I noticed (or rather the mechanic) and the ///M has a hydraulic system I'm rather surprised to get that srt of problem on a Beemer.

Any of you have had or heard of such thing??? :o :(

€700.00 to replace :headbang:

First time i've heard of it too. You mean the steering wheel moves sideways when you shake it?

GA41. Yes it pivots on its own axle. Very very slight (mm here) and you don't feel it driving. I'm wondering if it did not happen last year has I went backwards into a soft barrier on the track (holding on for dear life). Anyway €700.00 is not the end of the earth but...

Well i checked mine and was still rock solid. Not heard of similar issues before but as our cars are getting older strange problems will start to arise i guess. Your shunt may have very well caused it. It may have been a soft barrier but it's still a lot of energy to dissipate.
