Stebro exhaust option

Guys, I don't know how many people even know that Stebro is offering a can for the Zed. I didn't even until last week.

I researched their stuff and was surprised to see the cars they offer parts for. Ferrari, Lambo, Maserati, Porsche... you get the idea. Why the hell do they even make something for the Z4? Well, surprise to me, they have quite a history of supporting older BMW models, but just not the current ones. Until now. The Z4 can is apparently a brand new offering, their photobucket photos and vid are only 3 weeks old. They retail via ebay, I submitted a low-ball offer, and to my surprise they accepted! So, for $400 + $75 s/h (ugh), I've got a new can inbound. An impulse purchase (offer) no doubt, but looks like something I'll get to have some fun with!

I look forward to adding that little bit of growl to my all-too-quiet beast. Very Euro / lux sounding, no?

I don't think any cans get the Z any significant performance improvement, its purely aesthetics. Look and Sound.

If someone were to go FI however, the exhaust track could due to breath a little better.

I finally got mine and had it installed. I know a few others have received theirs in the meantime, although not much posting up about it on this board.

The weight savings was 9 lbs. That's over 1/3 the weight of the removed piece, not bad! It won't have much impact though, being that the weight lost was so low. The new can is smaller but denser I believe.

The tips are gorgeous. Slightly larger than the OEM chrome trim on the OEM exhaust, and with big rounded edges and lots of shine. No visible spot welds, even inside the tips. A small sign of quality.

The tone. Amazing. It starts off boomy like a V8 in the low ranges, and then does not get significantly louder as the revs climb, but instead the tone changes from boomy to almost musical. I haven't figured out a good way to describe it yet. I do hope to get sound clips, perhaps this weekend.

Here are some pics of the installed product, enjoy!

If you can please record the sound using a good microphone on a stand. I am interested but most are just done on a video camera or cell phone which makes the recording pointless. :)
