Hi I'm glad you have asked this cos I've noticed it on mine too lately but have been too scared to ask just in case!

Lol iv had 3 series before and it's been the same but first time with a z4 so not sure what to expect, how often does your do it?

Yep, mines the same-my commute is 25miles yet when I get back home it's steaming away as I maneuver on the drive, it seems to spit out black soot as well :x

Mine doesn't spit out black soot, but the steaming exhaust is normal. Mine lasts for ages, especially when the temp is low and/or the air quite moist.

Have you noticed your bonnet steaming when it's raining or the car is wet yet ? That's a bit weird. But totally normal because of the complete lack of heat shielding on the underside of the bonnet. Strangely, it's one of the only things that makes me feel self-conscious in my two seat convertible BMW

I noticed the steam the other day sat in traffic at night, got abit worried to be honest, hope its just normal, the smoke/steam doesn't smell of oil etc

Production of water is part of the combustion process. More visible at different ambient temperatures when the water vapour starts to condense.
Generally nowt to worry about.

From my experience of driving BMWs for years I would say its normal particularly when the engine is still cold. You'll notice a change now that the weather's changing.
