A letter in this months BMWcar mag highlighted a different slant on the recent Watchdog item on thieves stealing BMW's by reprogramming blank keys through the diagnostic port .
seems they don't even need to break in to do it :o
owner of a 650i had advertised the car & a couple turned up to view , usual process with boot up , doors open , bonnet up then test drive / returned with process repeated as it appeared a deal was in the offing . man checking under bonnet & giving the interior a thorough scoping whilst the lady asked about boot features etc
agreed to cement the deal via bank transfer later in week . . . . . . . . . only the car disappeared the following day & was last seen on the dartford crossing cameras . . . . oh & the couple texted the following day to say they had found a cheaper alternative  cheeky b4stards .
be wary folks

Hmm. I struggle to see how someone wouldn't notice a potential buyer plugging into the diagnostic port under the bonnet or in the cabin. And anyone letting someone take their P&J on an unaccompanied test drive kind of deserves whatever they get...

the testdrive wan't unaccompanied & the actual re-programming can be done in under 60 secs apparently whilst the "fake " key is placed in the ignition.
60 seconds not that long while some busty nubile sherzinger look alike asks you about the runflat kit & how it works :P
