Stealer vs. Indy Inspection service

BMW-service.co.uk is quoting me £269 and £429 (presumably + VAT) online for an Insp 1 and Insp 2 respectively, at my choice of local BMW dealer.

This will be my first experience of servicing the Zed... How do those prices sound? Would a reputable BMW Indy be much less?

To be honest, I'm not too bothered about all the 'checks' and only want the stamp in the book. Would a straight forward oil, plugs and filters change work out cheaper?

If you plan to keep it for a bit and keep the invoices for service bits etc....then I'd do it yourself and save quite a few quid.

Mine's a 2005 3.0i that was serviced up til 35k, 37k on it when I bought it but as I'm keeping it and listing the jobs done on here/keeping invoices etc... then I think for most who buy on here, that kind of love/attention to detail is more valuable than a stamp in the book.

I've seen the odd post on here from FSH cars where members have done the odd service job and found untouched filters, dirty filters which have simply been over looked or claimed to have been changed by garages etc...

A quality oil will set you back sub £50 for 8ltrs, oil and air filters less than £20, 6 x plugs, if you change them, less than £40. All in all, £100 or less and 1hr of your time with the peace of mind knowing that all of the main service parts were replaced.

Thanks, but I've no intention of doing it myself, and I would have thought that any future purchaser would be happier knowing that the work was carried out by a BMW trained technician rather than some amateur who may or may not apply the correct procedure for replacing the oil, torquing the plugs to the correct force or has even changed a filter before... I know there's the odd story about filters not getting changed, etc. but I'm willing to bet that if I take it to my local stealer for an Inspection 2 next week, I won't find that the plugs, oil or filters are unchanged...

I was really asking the forum for views on these prices based on their previous experience and whether there would be decent savings going down the independent specialist route or just getting the changes down without all the checks.

Those look to be std BMW dealer prices for your car as I was quoted similar for mine.

A couple of Indys near me quoted around £150 plus vat for inspection 1 & £300 plus vat for inspection 2

I think our resident Liverpool supporter was just trying to save you some cash :)

Thanks, Ray. That's good to know.

The 'amateur' I was referring is me and I hope what I said wasn't taken the wrong way. It would be nice to have tools and enough experience to contemplate DIY but with there being a remote possibility of having to sell, and just 28K on the clock, I think a reputable dealer stamp would be worth the extra cost. :)

I didn't read your post as anything other than just a reply Rick so definitely not taken the wrong way by me buddy, as Ray kindly pointed out, just trying to save you a few quid. Those Indy prices seem pretty reasonable I must say.

Appreciated!

I have a couple of local Indys.... "non-rip off", ex-BMW technicians, etc. I'll post their prices on here for reference.
