The country is in a state of hysteria (not running around waving arms in the air) but unclear what other people will do. We have been given guidance about how this virus spreads and we have made up our own mind what the correct action should be. We need to protect ourselves against those that we think ignore correct advice. Don't criticise others when you don't fully know their reasons, just make sure that they don't affect you by their actions. I have never met anyone on this forum but 'know' them through their comments, some humorous, some not so, but if the forum is an indication of what is really happening, then I worry, because I have seen a change in comments from people I thought were knowledgeable, capable people and that disappoints me.![]()
People watching is endlessly fascinating... When we all stick to the topic we generally agree on (ie Z4s) then we by and large all get on. As soon as we start to drift onto other topics, you start to see little slivers of an individual's character that you conciously or sub-consciously construct into a picture of the whole.
Brexit was a good one for this - following the airing of views, there are a few people from whom I would probably still quite happily take their car advice, but I wouldn't necessarily want to go and have a pint with them.
But Brexit wasn't a matter of life or death - Covid19 has introduced a whole new level of paranoia, selfishness and stupidity into the debate that has amazed and amused me at the same time. On the plus side, there have been voices of moderation and sage advice, but some people have far too much time and predjudice on their hands - I for one won't hold some people on here in quite the same regard as previously...
By the same token, I've seen members who would otherwise sit back and meekly watch the fireworks going off in a thread come to the fore spouting judgemental, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, vindictive rhetoric towards those who are actually brave enough to formulate and share opinions.
